Newborn baby dies following two-car crash in Melbourne

A newborn baby has tragically died following a two-car crash in Melbourne’s south-east.

The accident occurred on the South Gippsland Highway at Cranbourne around 1.40pm on Monday.

Police said a car was heading south near Thompsons Road when it was struck by a second vehicle exiting from a car park.

The 25-year-old female driver of the first vehicle was pregnant.

The force of the collision forced the woman into labour.

She was rushed to hospital where she gave birth.

Sadly, though, the newborn passed away in hospital last night.

The 31-year-old female driver of the second vehicle was uninjured.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
