No bail for 19yo Gold Coaster charged with murdering ex-girlfriend’s dad

The Gold Coast teenager accused of murdering his girlfriend’s dad has been refused bail in court today.

19-year-old Kynan Vital was charged with murdering 49-year-old David Murphy – who was struck in the head with a firearm and killed last month.

It’s understood that Vital and his friend Ethan McPherson, 19, were chased from the Murphy’s property in Springfield Lakes after breaking in on the night of October 19.


One of the 19-year-old’s allegedly struck David Murphy with a firearm and allegedly assaulted an accompanying family friend.

Today, the Brisbane Supreme Court heard that Vital then returned to the Murphy’s property after the fatal assault where he allegedly punched his ex-girlfriend, and Mr Murphy’s daughter, Julie.

They also allegedly stole her phone.

Vital will remain behind bars until his next court appearance.
