Northern NSW shark nets now in operation
Shark nets are now in operation in northern NSW, after they were deployed at five beaches in the region yesterday.
The move comes three weeks after a trial net was installed at Ballina, and state Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair says the tests have been successful.
Mr Blair says the nets are fitted with whale alarms and dolphin pingers like those used between Newcastle and Wollongong.
They will be checked twice daily.
