Notorious Surfers Paradise building destroyed by fire
THE ABANDONED Oak Building in Surfers Paradise has been destroyed by fire.
Emergency crews were called to the Gold Coast Highway eye-sore after reports it had been engulfed in flames around 2.15am on Sunday.
No one was inside and there are no reports of injuries.
However, the vacant building has been declared structurally unsound and crews remain on scene as investigations into the cause of the blaze continue.
All northbound lanes of the Gold Coast Highway between Clifford Street and Remembrance Drive, Surfers Paradise, will be closed for several hours as a result.
Police are urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes of travel.
