Forensic testing has since confirmed that the bones are human, but further testing is required to determine gender, and identity.

These tests are expected to take a number of weeks.

A crime scene was established and a further search took place yesterday, consisting of local police, the Blue Mountains Search & Rescue, Strike Force Vowel investigators, the Forensic Services Group,, SES, RFS and Volunteer Rescue Association.

Investigators are hopeful that further forensic testing of the remains will provide fresh leads into the case.
