NSW man charged over alleged repeated rape of child relative in his care

A MAN has been arrested and charged with repeatedly raping a child relative in the NSW Riverina region.

The 44-year-old man is accused of raping the now 13-year-old girl on multiple occasions between 2012 and 2015.

Police say the girl was aged between 8 and 11 when she was allegedly raped four times and indecently assaulted.


The attacks allegedly took place at a house in the Riverina while the child was in the care of the 44-year-old man.

Detectives from the Child Abuse Squad were first made aware of the allegations in June.

Following an extensive investigation, detectives arrested the 44-year-old man at a home at Muswellbrook, around 240km north of Sydney, around 8.30am on Wednesday.

He was taken to the local police station where he was charged with two counts of having sex with a child under 10 – under authority, and two counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with a child under 14.

He was also charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault.

The 44-year-old appeared in Muswellbrook Local Court today where he was formally refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday, 20 September.

Investigations into the serious allegations are continuing.
