NSW: Man charged with multiple gun offences

A MAN has been charged with several firearms offences following an operation in Kogarah and Maroubra yesterday.

Detectives from Botany Bay Local Area Command formed Strike Force Volmer to investigate the supply of illicit drugs and firearms in the Botany area.

Just before 6pm, police stopped and spoke with three men in Shaw Street at Kogarah.

The three men and a vehicle were searched by police, who allegedly located a loaded silver-coloured handgun inside the vehicle.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene and conveyed to Mascot Police Station, while the other two men were released pending further inquiries.

A short time later, detectives executed a search warrant at a unit in Maroubra where they allegedly located a quantity of ammunition and several other items suspected of being stolen.

The 25-year-old man was charged with several offences, including possess a loaded firearm in a public place and possessing an unauthorised and unregistered pistol.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today.

Inquiries into the items located at Maroubra are continuing.
