NSW man who faked he was a veteran arrested and charged

A man has been charged following allegations a man was making fraudulent claims he was a returned serviceman.

Police say that in March this year they received reports a man was allegedly claiming he was a veteran, while attending functions on national days of commemoration.

Following investigations, about 3.15pm yesterday, detectives executed a search warrant at a home at Umina Beach and allegedly located replica military medals, badges and a pistol.

About 6.45pm, a 27-year-old man attended Gosford Police Station, where he was arrested and charged with dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, and possess unauthorised firearm.

He is due to appear at Gosford Local Court on Tuesday 17 May.
