NSW: Man killed after van, truck crash head-on

A MAN has died after the van he was driving collided head-on with a semi-trailer on the Pacific Highway north of Port Macquarie.

Shortly after 4pm on Friday, emergency services were called to the Pacific Highway near the intersection of Hastings River Drive at Fernbank Creek, just north of Port Macquarie, following reports of a crash.

Initial investigations suggest a van and a semi-trailer crashed head on.

The driver of the van, a man, died at the scene.

The passenger of the van, also a man, was trapped for a short time before being released.

He was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics for serious injuries, before being taken to Port Macquarie Hospital.

The driver of the truck was not injured. He will be taken to hospital where he will undergo mandatory blood and urine tests.

The ages of the men involved in the crash are not known at this stage.

Investigations into the crash are continuing and police urge anyone with information to come forward.
