NSW: Man shoots himself dead in dramatic stand-off with police in small rural town

A CRITICAL incident investigation has been launched into the shooting death of a man at Young overnight.

About 11.45pm, police from Cootamundra Local Area Command spoke with a man in Cloete Street, after he was seen armed with a firearm.

A short time later, the man sustained a gunshot wound and died at the scene.

No police firearms were discharged. No police officers were injured.

An independent critical incident team from The Hume Local Area Command will investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

All information will be provided to the Coroner, who will determine the cause of death and make any findings about the events leading to the man’s death.

No further details are available at this time; however, police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
