UPDATE: NSW police ask for extradition of Qld man arrested over shooting at Tweed Heads

UPDATE 11.30am: The man accused of fatally shooting a so-called ‘standover man’ in Tweed Heads on the weekend, has made a brief appearance at Southport Magistrates Court.

Phil Becker was arrested at a service station in Jimboomba, just west of the Gold Coast, at about 4.30am today.

The 33-year-old was taken to Southport Watchhouse before facing court where he did not oppose his extradition to NSW.

He is likely to face Tweed Heads Local Court tomorrow, where he is expected to be charged with the murder of Ace Hall.

The 31-year-old’s body was dumped outside Tweed Heads Hospital on Saturday afternoon. He had suffered a single gun shot wound and died a short time later.

EARLIER: NSW Police will seek to extradite a man from Queensland today after he was arrested in relation to the murder of a man in the state’s north on Saturday.

Police were called to Tweed Heads District Hospital after receiving information a man suffering a gunshot wound on Saturday.

31-year-old Ace Hall died a short time later.

Detectives from Tweed Heads Local Area Command, with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, established Strike Force Varndell to investigate Mr Hall’s death.

Officers found a Toyota Corolla at a service station on the Mt Lindsay Highway at Jimboomba overnight.

Queensland Police arrested a 33-year-old man without incident yesterday.

He was conveyed to the Southport Watch House.

NSW Police investigators will seek to extradite the man from Queensland when he appears at the Southport Local Court Later today.
