A MAN is recovering in hospital after allegedly being punched and knocked to the ground after trying to stop a fight outside a Northern Beaches hotel overnight.
Shortly before midnight on Sunday, an argument broke out between a group of people outside the hotel at Collaroy.
Police have been told a 28-year-old man, from Newport, intervened in the confrontation and was punched to the ground and knocked unconscious.

The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before he was taken to Mona Vale District Hospital where he remains under observation after sustaining facial injuries.
Police from Northern Beaches Local Area Command have initiated an investigation and spoken with witnesses.
They are now looking for a man who they believe can assist with their inquiries.
