NSW: Police pounce on man armed with toy gun in Sydney CBD

A MAN has been arrested after he was seen brandishing what appeared to be an automatic assault rifle in Sydney’s CBD yesterday.

Police raced to George Street at around 10am on Friday after receiving reports of a man carrying an automatic firearm.

A short time after arriving on scene, police pounced on their armed suspect – a 26-year-old man – and placed him in handcuffs.

During his arrest, officers discovered the weapon was a only a plastic toy.

The ‘toy’ was seized and the man was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station before he was transferred to St Vincent’s Hospital for assessment.

Investigations in the incident are continuing.
