NSW: Police seek witnesses to serious crash

POLICE are calling for witnesses to come forward following a serious single-vehicle crash at Punchbowl yesterday.

About 11.45am, police say a Toyota Hilux utility was travelling west on Canterbury Road when it left the roadway and began travelling along the footpath before slamming into a power pole.

The force of the impact caused the vehicle’s spare tyre to dislodge and smash through the windscreen of a Toyota Camry also travelling on Canterbury Road.

The 21-year-old driver of the utility was treated by paramedics for a cut to his head, but refused to be taken to hospital.

His passenger, also a 21-year-old man, was taken to Bankstown Hospital with a fractured leg, but has since been discharged.

Miraculously, the male driver of the sedan was not injured.

Following the crash, diversions and road closures were in place for about four hours, causing moderate delays for motorists.

Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with information that may assist, to come forward.
