NSW: School burglar arrested after four-hour land, air chase

A MAN has been arrested after he was allegedly caught red-handed breaking into a school at Nowra this morning.

Police say they responded to reports of a break-in at a school on John Purcell Way about 6.40am.

On arrival, officers discovered that the canteen had been broken into and, after a brief search of the school grounds, located a man who tried outrunning officers on foot.

The dog squad and police helicopter joined the chase and, after receiving a tip-off from the community, arrested a 42-year-old man at a garage on John Purcell Way about four hours later.

He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with two counts of break and enter, enter enclosed lands and a revocation of parole warrant.

He has been refused bail and will appear at Nowra Local Court tomorrow.
