NSW taxi driver charged with indecently assaulting female passenger

A TAXI driver has been arrested and charged after he allegedly indecently assaulted a female passenger in Sydney’s inner west overnight.

Police said the 19-year-old woman got into the cab on Burwood Road at Burwood around 9.30pm and instructed the driver to take her to Abbotsford.

During the trip, it’s alleged the driver, a 46-year-old man, started to make advances towards the young woman.

The woman used her mobile phone to alert her boyfriend to the situation and then asked the driver to drop her off at Five Dock.

The taxi driver pulled over his cab on Henry Street at Five Dock where it’s alleged he indecently assaulted the woman before driving off.

Terrified, the woman called police. They raced to the scene and conducted a search of the area, however, the cab driver could not be located.

Following inquiries, officers were able to track down the taxi in Merrylands around 1am this morning.

The driver was arrested and taken to Merrylands Police Station where he was charged with assault with act of indecency.

The 46-year-old was granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday 27 October.
