NSW teen charged over disturbing video of emu attack

A MAN has been charged by police after a disturbing video circulated on social media earlier this week, showing an emu being straddled and plucked as people looked on and laughed.

The shocking video, which was uploaded to Facebook and Snapchat, shows a man holding the bird down on the ground by the neck and ripping handfuls of feathers at a time.

The emu, visibly distressed and injured, tries to escape but the man continues to pin it down, trying to ride it.

Police were made aware of the video on Monday and immediately conducted inquiries.

After a tip off, it was revealed the incident took place on Marthaguy Road at Quambone, near Coonamble, on Sunday evening.

On Wednesday, officers were quick to arrest a 19-year-old man at a Dubbo home.

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station and charged with recklessly beat etc cause prolonged suffering to animal.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court on Monday 22 July.
