NSW woman finds $20,000 worth of gold in her backyard

Police are trying to locate the owner of $20,000 worth of gold bullion which was found in the backyard of a home on the NSW South Coast last week.

Police said a woman handed the package of gold into the Lake Illawarra Police Station on Thursday 14 July.

The woman told police she had found the package in the backyard of her Kiama home on Tuesday 12 July.

Checks have revealed the gold bullion is worth approximately $20,000.

Police have now commenced inquiries to try and locate the lawful owner.

Police are urging anyone with a claim or information regarding the discovery to contact Lake Illawarra Police Station or Crime stoppers.

Proof of ownership will be required.
