NSW: Woman set on fire in alleged domestic dispute

A MAN has been arrested and charged after allegedly setting a woman on fire during a domestic disturbance at a home north of Newcastle.

Police say they were called to the Wahroonga Street home around 2pm on Tuesday following reports of a disturbance between a man and a woman.

When officers arrived, they allegedly found a 22-year-old woman suffering burns. She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital.


Police said a 22-year-old man became aggressive towards officers at the scene. One officer had attempted to deploy his taser in an attempt to subdue the man but was unsuccessful.

The man was eventually arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and resisting an officer in the execution of duty.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on 6 September.
