Nurse stabbed on the job by armed patient

A NURSE has allegedly been slashed with knives whilst trying to help a patient at a hospital in Blacktown, Sydney overnight.

The 35-year-old woman started her shift around 9.30pm and was tasked with looking after a 47-year-old male patient.

About 30 minutes in, the woman’s patient allegedly started behaving erratically, walking into other patient’s rooms and taking photos with his mobile phone.

Police say the man then walked into the staff room where he allegedly armed himself with two knives.

Unaware that he was armed, the nurse attempted to help him back to his room when he allegedly slashed her with the knives – cutting her wrist and tearing her clothing.

Miraculously, she managed to escape the staff room with the help of an elderly male patient who came to her aid by closing the door and keeping the armed man confined to the room until security and police arrived.

The man was arrested at the scene and currently remains at the hospital under police guard.
