Occy’s Grom comp crowns winners

GOLD Coast surfing legend Mark “Occy” Occhilupo has stayed on the sand while keeping an eye over dozens of young grommets who took to the water for the finals day of the contest held in his legacy.

Champions were crowned at Duranbah beach yesterday in the 11th annual Billabong Occy’s Grom comp.

Quinn Bruce from Coolangatta claimed victory over Luke Wrice (from Coledale in NSW) in the blue ribbon 16 and under boys event.

While fellow Cooly kid Holly Coffey got the better of Billie Mellinz (Coalcliff, NSW) in the girls’ competition.

The 16 and under boys also put on 25 minutes of entertaining aerial manoeuvre as the finals commenced for the Kustom Mini Air Strike.
