Off-duty nurse has ‘arm broken in three places’ in shocking attack

A nurse has had her arm broken in three places after she was attacked while trying to help an unconscious man found lying on a footpath in Sydney.

The 65-year-old woman was walking along King Street in Newtown just before 3.00pm yesterday, when she spotted the man on the ground.

She stopped to help the 24-year-old when another man allegedly pushed her to the ground before jumping on top of her and assaulting her.

Members of the public rushed to the woman’s aid and pushed the man off her, before calling police and paramedics.

She was then taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where she was treated for three fractures to her right arm and bruising.

A 57-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Newtown Police Station where he has since been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

He’s been refused bail to appear at Central Local Court later today.
