Off duty officer involved in assault at Gold Coast Casino

THE Ethical Standards Command is over-viewing an investigation into an assault matter involving an off duty Gold Coast police officer during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Information supplied to police suggests the two men, one being a police Constable, were involved in a disturbance at a casino in Broadbeach shortly after 2.30am.

A 38-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for observation.

A witness to the event told myGC the 38-year-old man was causing a disturbance in the Atrium Bar of the Casino before he was assaulted.

“The guy that got hit was being an absolute jerk,” she said. “He was being rude and disrespectful to almost every woman in the Atrium. I’m not a fan of fighting, but seriously the guy that got hit was an absolute jerk.”

“No complaint has been received at this time, however police Ethical Standards Command will continue to overview the investigation into the incident.” Police said in a statement.
