Officer stood down over near fatal pursuit

A GOLD Coast police officer has been stood down from official duty following a near fatal pursuit in Bundall. 

It’s alleged police detected an 18-year-old girl driving at high speeds along Bundall Road around 8.30pm on Mother’s Day.

They attempted to intercept the vehicle, but the teenage driver failed to stop, crossed onto the wrong side of the road and smashed head-on into an oncoming car.

The incident horror collision left an 18-year-old girl fighting for her life in hospital and badly injured an elderly couple.

Police say the Senior Constable, a 47-year-old man, is the subject of an investigation relating to the pursuit.
