Olympic swim coach facing fresh child sex charges

A disgraced Olympic swim coach, whose list of protégés include Susie O’Neill and Samantha Riley, has been charged with multiple child sex offences.

Scott Volkers was arrested at his Sunshine Coast home on Friday and taken to Maroochydore Police Station, where he was slapped with five historic offences of indecent treatment of a child.

He was given bail to appear at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on November 13.

The 59-year-old faced similar charges 15 years ago, but they were dropped.

He was refused a blue card to work with children in 2009 and relocated to South America, where he continued to coach swimming.

Lobbying by the Australian Olympic Committee saw Volkers denied accreditation for the Rio Olympics in 2016.
