OMG! This genius has created an airbag case for your iPhone

Seriously, how has no one ever thought of this before?!

An engineering student from Germany is being praised around the world for his genius smartphone airbag invention.

The gadget, which is yet to hit shelves, is already receiving stellar reviews after it was awarded the top prize by the German Society for Mechatronics this year.

It was created by 25-year-old Philip Frenzel, a student at Aalen University, who was fed up with dropping his smartphone and cracking the screen.

According to Frenzel, the case is fitted with sensors that detect when the phone is in free fall, with the metal springs then popping out to protect the phone before it reaches the ground.

The university student is currently crowdfunding the case on kickstarter, which is an online funding platform for creative projects.
