A family bike ride has ended in tragedy in Western Australia with a five-year-old boy dead and his father and nine-year-old brother airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
The 37-year-old father was enjoying an afternoon ride with his two sons along the Victoria Highway in the state’s far north-east on Saturday afternoon when they were struck by a Toyota Landcruiser.
Police said the man had been riding a bicycle with his five-year-old son as a pillion passenger, while his nine-year-old son rode his own bike alongside them.

The Landcruiser collided with both bikes, police said.
The five-year-old boy died at the scene. His father and nine-year-old brother were airlifted to Darwin Hospital with serious injuries.
The 56-year-old man driving the car was not injured.
Investigations into the cause of the collision are continuing. Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
