One dead, eight injured in horror highway crash in regional Victoria

ONE person has been killed and eight others, including four children, have been injured in a horror head-on crash in regional Victoria.

The accident happened on The Northern Highway at Runnymede south of Elmore, halfway between Bendigo and Echuca, just after 3pm on Friday.

Police say a Prado 4WD towing a tandem trailer with a car on it veered onto the wrong side of the road and into oncoming traffic where it collided with a Volkswagen sedan.

Sadly, a woman travelling in the back seat of the Volkswagen died at the scene. Police said two other occupants, a man and a woman, were injured and rushed to Bendigo Hospital.

Two women and four children, including a toddler, who were travelling in the Prado were also injured.

Three of the four children, a 15-year-old girl, a 14-year-old and a 2-year-old boy, were rushed to hospital – two of them were flown to the Royal Melbourne by helicopter.

The female driver of the Prada was also airlifted to hospital, according to the Bendigo Advertiser.

The extent of their injuries was not immediately clear.
