One dead, five seriously injured after truck ploughs into Sydney pedestrians

ONE person has been killed and at least five others have been seriously injured in a horror truck crash in Sydney this morning.

Multiple emergency crews rushed to Botany Road in Alexandria after receiving reports of the serious smash just after 7.45am.

Police have been told a truck, carrying bricks, was travelling south on Botany Road when it veered into northbound lanes, before hitting pedestrians, a power pole, a bus stop and a building.

Rescue crews desperately worked to free the driver of the truck who was trapped for about 45 minutes before being taken to hospital with chest pain.

Botany Road remains closed in both directions between Bourke Street and Epsom Road, with motorists are being urged to avoid the area.

There’s reports the truck driver may have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash, however this has not yet been confirmed.
