One dead, four injured in horror Qld crash

One person has died and another four have been injured in a horror two-car crash at The Gemfields, near Emerald yesterday afternoon.

Police said initial investigations suggest that around 1.30pm, a 4wd utility was travelling south on Anakie – Sapphire Road when it collided with a sedan that was travelling west along the Capricorn Highway.

The driver of the sedan, a 39-year-old man, received critical injuries and was taken to Emerald hospital where he died shortly after arrival.

His 24-year-old female passenger received non-life threatening injuries and was flown to a Brisbane hospital for treatment.

The driver of the 4WD, a 24-year-old man, and his two passengers, a 24-year-old woman and 30-year-old man, all received non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Emerald Hospital for treatment.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
