One dead, four injured in Christmas Day crash

An elderly woman has been killed and a young family of four injured in a horror head-on crash in Canberra.

Police say the accident happened along Outtrim Avenue in the suburb of Calwell at around 11am on Christmas Day.


Initial investigations suggest the elderly woman lost control of her and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle after suffering from a medical condition behind the wheel.

The woman was critically injured and rushed to Canberra Hospital where she later died.

A couple believed to be aged in their 20s and two children travelling in the second vehicle were taken to hospital for observation.
