One dead after light aircraft crashes in NSW

A man has been killed in a light plane crash near Bathurst, police have confirmed.

The plane left an airfield at Upper Turon, north of Bathurst, about 2pm yesterday, however did not return as scheduled.

Emergency services were notified about 3.15pm and despite a large ground and air search, the plane could not be located.

At first light today, the search resumed with the aircraft located in bushland in the Upper Turon area.

The body of the 44-year-old male pilot was located inside the aircraft.

Investigations are continuing.
