UPDATE @ 4.35AM: Queensland police have launched an investigation after one person was killed and another seriously injured during a horror high speed crash on the Gold Coast.
The accident happened at the intersection of the Gold Coast Highway and Thrower Drive at Palm Beach just before 6pm on Sunday.
It’s understood a station wagon had collided with traffic lights.

It was reported earlier two cars were involved in the accident but it appears the vehicle had crashed at such force it split in two, sending one half over in to the bushes on the side of the road.
The 24-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was declared deceased at the scene.
The 29-year-old female driver is in the Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.

One car was completely ripped apart in the collision, with debris, including seats, strewn across the road.
At least one person has been confirmed dead, with reports two others have been seriously injured.
The highway has been closed in both directions as investigations into the cause of the crash get under way.
It’s believed speed was a contributing factor.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the area, with traffic being diverted around the awful scene.
The highway is expected to remain closed for several hours.
