Teen arrested following dramatic crash at Gold Coast intersection

UPDATE @ 12.01 PM | A teenage boy has been arrested following a dramatic crash in Helensvale this morning.

The 15-year-old was allegedly behind the wheel of a car, which collided with two others at the intersection of Discovery Drive and Town Centre Drive around 5.15am on Thursday.

A Queensland Police spokesperson told myGC the boy tried to make a run for it across a nearby oval, but was detained by another driver who was allegedly punched in the face by the teen.


Members of the public helped to restrain the male until police arrived on scene and took him into custody.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

It’s not yet known if the vehicle involved was stolen.

EARLIER @ 6.00 AM | One person has been taken to hospital following an early morning smash at a busy intersection on the Gold Coast.

Emergency crews were called to the Gold Coast Highway and Discovery Drive intersection in Helensvale just before 5.30am, following reports two cars had collided.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson told myGC one person, believed to be a male, was treated at the scene by paramedics.

He has since been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

Police remain on scene this morning directing traffic, with motorists urged to travel through the area with caution.

According to the Department of Transport and Main Roads, all lanes have been affected with delays expected.
