One killed, eight injured in horror NSW crash

A young woman is dead and another eight people are injured following a horror two-car crash in northern NSW.

The accident happened at the intersection of the Bruxner Highway and Plain Station Road at Tabulam, around 65 kilometres west of Casino, just after midday today.

Police said six people – a male and five females – were travelling in a Holden Commodore that collided with a Toyota Landcruiser.

The driver of the Commodore, a 21-year-old man, and three female passengers sustained minor injuries.

They were taken to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment.

A fourth female passenger was seriously injured and airlifted to the same hospital, while a fifth female passenger died at the scene.

The ages of the passengers are not yet known.

The driver of the Toyota Landcruiser, a 72-year-old man, and two passengers, a 39-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman, all sustained minor injuries.

They too were taken to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area completely with the highway closed in both directions.

Traffic diversions are in place.
