P-plate driver allegedly caught nine times over the legal alcohol limit

A P-PLATER has had his licence suspended after he was allegedly caught driving drunk with nine times the legal amount of alcohol in his system at Coffs Harbour.

Police spotted the 23-year-old driving along Lyster Street in a Holden Cruze with its hazard lights on just before midnight.

Officers intercepted the vehicle and spoke to young man behind the wheel before subjecting him to a roadside breath test.

After failing the roadside test, the 23-year-old was arrested and taken back to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he underwent a secondary breath analysis which also returned a positive result, nine times over the legal limit.

The young man was charged with high-range drink-driving and had his licence suspended.

He will front Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday, 7 August.
