P-plater charged after woman hit while crossing busy Sydney road

A p-plate driver is facing a number of serious charges after an elderly woman was run down in Gladesville on Monday.

It’s understood the 78-year-old was crossing Victoria Road, at the lights, when she was struck by a Hyundai Getz being driven by a 22-year-old woman.

Police said the young woman stopped to assist the elderly lady following the incident until emergency services arrived.


The injured woman was then treated at the scene by paramedics for serious arm and internal injuries before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

The driver was arrested and taken to Ryde Police Station where she was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, cause bodily harm by misconduct, drive recklessly/furiously, not stop at stop line and not comply with P2 licence condition, not display P plates.

She was granted bail and is due to appear in Burwood Local Court on Monday 30 July.
