Pacific Highway closed after man killed in horror truck crash

NSW: THE Pacific Highway remains closed in both directions north of Coffs Harbour following a horror truck crash which has left one person dead and another seriously injured.

Police said a semi-trailer collided with a four-tonne truck along a section of the highway at Halfway Creek, around 44 kilometres north of Coffs Harbour, just before 7am this morning.

The semi-trailer then left the road and came to rest down an embankment. Police said the driver was found deceased in the cab.

The driver of the truck, which police said was packed with tools, sustained severe pelvic and leg injuries

The man, believed to be aged in his early 40s, was rushed to Coffs Harbour Health Campus for treatment.

The Pacific Highway has been closed in both directions at the scene, with local diversions in place.

Police said the road is expected to remain closed for several hours while officers from the Crash Investigation Unit examine the scene and the wreckage is cleared.

Northbound traffic is being diverted via Bucca Road (Moonee Beach), Orara Way, Armidale Road to rejoin the Pacific Highway at South Grafton.

Southbound traffic is being diverted via Armidale Road, Orara Way, Bucca Road (Moonee Beach).

Motorists are advised to allow plenty of additional travel time.
