Pair charged over Hope Island armed robbery
UPDATE: A 20-YEAR-OLD man accused of robbing a Hope Island service station with a fake handgun last night will remain behind bars until he applies for bail on June 17.
A 19-year-old co-accused will front Southport Magistrates Court on June 16.
EARLIER: POLICE have charged two men following an armed robbery at Hope Island early this morning.
It is alleged the 19-year-old man entered the Freedom Service Station on Broadwater Avenue around 12:40pm, armed with what appeared to be a handgun, and demanded cash.
After a struggle with the attendant, the alleged offender fled on foot with a sum of cash.
Police cordoned off the entire area, combing the streets until they found the offender acting suspiciously.
A short time later a 20-year-old was also arrested.
The attendant didn’t suffer any physical injuries as a result of the robbery.
Police have charged a 20-year-old Murrumba Downs man and a 19-year-old Willow Vale man with one count each of armed robbery.
The 20-year-old is due to face the Southport Magistrates Court today, and the 19-year-old is expected to appear on June 16.
