Passenger killed, driver critically injured after ute hits tree

A DRIVER is fighting for his life in hospital following a horror crash that claimed the life of his passenger in Central West NSW.

Police said the two men, both aged in their 20s, were driving along Bedgerabong Road when their Holden ute left the road at Forbes and struck a tree about 2.20pm on Wednesday.

Sadly the 20-year-old man sitting in the passenger seat could not be saved and died at the scene.

The 24-year-old driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Orange Base Hospital.

He has since been transferred to Sydney’s Westmead Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene was declared and examined by the Central West and Metropolitan Crash Investigation Units.

Officers from Central West Police District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
