Patient accused of punching paramedics before stealing ambulance

A man will appear in court today, accused of assaulting two paramedics before stealing their ambulance in Queensland overnight.

The 56-year-old man is understood to have been travelling in the ambulance at Buxton overnight when he launched the shocking attack.

It’s alleged the man punched a male paramedic who was in the back with him, before throwing an item at the female paramedic driving the ambulance.

The ambulance stopped and the paramedics called police before the patient allegedly carjacked the ambulance and drove away.

It was found nearby a short time later where the man was taken into custody.

He has been charged with two counts of serious assault of a public officer, two counts of wilful damage, and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The man is due to face Bundaberg Magistrates Court this morning.
