Peak hour chaos as Friday afternoon traffic causes gridlock on M1

LATEST @ 5.00 PM  | A multi-vehicle crash at Gaven is only adding to a nightmare run on the Pacific Motorway this afternoon.

A number of cars collided northbound just after the Smith Street Exit 66 off-ramp around 4.45pm.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has confirmed the right lane is currently blocked.

Emergency crews are on scene, however, it’s not known at this stage if anyone has been injured.

Massive delays are being experienced in both directions, with motorists being urged to avoid the area and to seek alternative routes.

EARLIER @ 3.00 PM | Motorists heading home from Brisbane this afternoon are being urged to be patient, with Friday traffic causing chaos for drivers on the M1.

The congestion begins from Underwood in Brisbane and continues pretty much all the way to Nerang on the Gold Coast.

There’s a short reprieve before traffic begins to build again southbound from Mudgeeraba to Burleigh.

It’s then bumper to bumper northbound from Bilinga to Elanora.

According to the Department of Traffic and Main Roads, there’s no known incidents causing the delays.

Drivers are being urged to be patient and allow for extra travel time.
