Six fire crews responded but despite their efforts, flames quickly intensified and engulfed the home.

The homeowner and sole occupant of the house was asleep at the time and was woken by his cat with just seconds to spare.
Miraculously, he made it outside unhurt just moments before the roof caved in.
The blaze was so fierce, the single storey brick veneer house could not be saved. At one point, firefighters were forced to retreat from inside.
The blaze sent a thick blanket of smoke over the suburb and those with respiratory problems were advised to stay indoors.
Two firefighters were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion. No one else was injured.
It’s expected the house will be demolished this afternoon.
