Pet dogs found dead in backyard after suspected ‘dog baiting’

A dog owner is mourning the loss of his two beloved pets after they were found dead in the backyard of a Queensland home.

The heartbreaking incident happened in the early hours of Monday morning at a property on Bluff Road in Charters Towers.

“The male resident awoke at 6.30am to find his two dogs deceased in his backyard,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

Queensland Police suspect the dogs were baited with a piece of laced meat.

“It appears both dogs had consumed a meat product left on the property,” Detective Senior Sergeant Jim Lacey said.

“This is a cruel and unjustified incident which has resulted in the death of two pet dogs.”
