Pet Staffy suffocated by heartless home intruder

A pet dog has been killed by a heartless home intruder in Melbourne.

Detectives released details of the horrifying case of animal cruelty on Monday, in a bid to try and track down the person responsible.

“It is believed an unknown person has entered the backyard of an Abercarn Avenue property in Craigieburn sometime on Thursday,” police said in a statement.

“The offender has approached the Staffy cross, belonging to a 71-year-old woman, and applied duct-tape to its entire head, causing the dog to suffocate.”

Detective Senior Constable Lee Barton labelled the horrifying incident a ‘despicable act.’

“Toby was a 9-year-old rescue dog and described as very friendly in nature,” he said.

“This incident has understandably caused the owner great distress and we would like to find the person responsible as soon as possible.”
