Photos show apartment trashed, covered in blood after Surfers Paradise siege

5:30 PM SATURDAY | A MAN has destroyed an apartment during a marathon siege in Surfers Paradise.

As many as 14 police crews swooped on the One building on Northcliffe Terrace just after 6pm on Friday after the 32-year-old man started tossing furniture over the balcony of an apartment. See video below.

Once they arrived, the man allegedly started threatening self-harm and yelling at officers from the balcony of the high-rise building, urging them to shoot him.

The man was also allegedly armed with a meat cleaver and a large kitchen knife.

Due to the nature of the situation, police declared an emergency situation at 7.20pm and locked-down the area.

The Esplanade was closed to all traffic between Clifford and Laycock Streets while police negotiators attempted to coax the man out of the building.

The stand-off lasted almost 12 hours before the man surrendered to officers without incident around 5am Saturday.

It’s understood he was taken to hospital where he will be subjected to a mental health assessment.

Pictures from inside the apartment supplied to myGC show the sheer extent of the damage the man caused.

The images show the unit at the centre of the siege trashed with blood smeared across the tile floor.

It’s understood a door was also ripped off its hinges during the rampage.

The lift lobby outside the man’s apartment was also trashed, littered with smashed glass and broken furniture.
