Pimpama grass fire under control

3.20pm UPDATE: FIRE FIGHTERS have gained the upper hand on a grass fire burning on the northern Gold Coast this afternoon.
Crews were called to the blaze burning between Wallaby Way and Kerkin Road North at Pimpama at around 2.45pm.
As a result of a quick response time, the fire was brought under control by 3.20pm.
Ormeau Rural Fire Brigade advised crews from Wasp Creek Rural Fire Brigade and Helensvale Urban Station attended.
Initial information suggested a car fire spread through nearby grassland at the back of Wallaby Way and Kerkin Road.
Smoke was expected to impact nearby residential areas and residents were advised to close doors and windows.
