Plane carrying Brazilian soccer team missing in Columbia: reports

A PASSENGER plane reportedly carrying finalists for the South American football championships has disappeared in Colombian airspace, according to reports.

The charter flight was travelling to Medellin International Airport and had 72 passengers and 9 crew on board, according to the Associated Press (AP).

It’s understood the aircraft reported an emergency mid-flight and has now disappeared, according to The Telegraph. There are unconfirmed reports the plane has crashed near the city of Medellin.

Medellin’s international airport said on its Twitter account that the aircraft had departed from Bolivia.

Local media report the plane was carrying members of the soccer team Chapecoense from Brazil, which is scheduled to play Copa Sudamerica finals against Atletico Nacional on Wednesday in Medellin.
