Gold Coasters are being warned not to be alarmed if they see or smell smoke today, with a hazard reduction burn taking place in Burleigh Heads.
With weather permitting, fire crews will be conducting a planned burn at Ron Mason Park and Herbert Park from today and into tomorrow.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services says residents in the area may be affected by smoke, with locals urged to close all windows and doors and to keep respiratory medication close by.

However, the smoke impact is not expected to be too severe with changes made to reduce the intensity.
“During the period of Covid 19 amendments have been made to the implementation of the Hazard Reduction Burn Program to ensure that there are strategies in place to mitigate the potential impact of smoke to residents,” QFES said.
“This will currently include only completing burns in locations where the impact of smoke can be undertaken in a controlled manner.”
Motorists travelling through the area are also being warned to drive with caution and to conditions.
