A PLAYER has been charged after a referee was punched unconscious during an Oz Tag match at St Marys overnight.
The horrific attack happened when the referee allegedly sent off the man for inappropriate comments made during the game at The Kingsway around 7.30pm.
“It is alleged the player approached the referee and punched him to the face rendering him unconscious,” police said in a statement.

The man fled the scene before emergency services arrived.
The referee was treated by paramedics before being taken to Nepean Hospital suffering an injury to his jaw.
Following investigations, a 22-year-old man was arrested in nearby Werrington Road, and was taken to Penrith Police Station.
He was charged with assault occasion actual bodily harm and granted conditional bail to appear in Penrith Local Court on Tuesday 5 September.
